In 2008 I spent Christmas on a cruise ship in New Zealand and Australia. When I was on the ship, I met a cute guy named Paul and found out that he lived in LA (a few hours north of my home). We hung out the whole time on the ship and when we got home we instantly started dating. For six months we commuted back and forth from our houses to hang out every weekend. Then six months later, he moved in to a guesthouse two doors down from my house!! We dated for a year and never spent over a week apart from each other.

The weirdest part was that he remembers seeing me in LAX airport before we even left the states for the trip! Each of our families got on two different planes and without knowing, both headed to New Zealand. My family arrived in New Zealand and ended up staying in the same hotel as Paul's family where he saw me once again! Five days later we got on the cruise ship where we finally got to meet each other.

In the summer of 2007 I traveled to Europe accompanied by my family. One day my mom and I went shopping at a market near St. Mark's Square in Venice. The crowds were fierce but I was determined to leave with some European treasures. I was maneuvering my way through the crowd brushing peoples shoulders, following it up with a constant sorry. Suddenly I bumped into this girl named Taylor who went to my high school in San Diego freshman year! I hadn't seen her in two years. She had told everyone she moved away to Australia, but I caught her in a busy square in Venice. What a coincidink!

For the first semester of my senior year (I graduated '08) I moved to Thousand Oaks, CA to play hockey. While there I attended Newbury Park High School and stayed pretty much under the radar.

Last week I was in Cabo on vacation. My friends and I wanted to check out the nightlife so we found some kids to split a cab with and headed into town. We started talking to these guys who were from the L.A area, and one said he was from Thousand Oaks. I asked him what high school he went to and he calmly said Newbury Park High.

We were all a few drinks deep and I was feeling great. So naturally, I freaked out in the cab and told him I also went to Newbury Park High! I started name dropping the few faces I knew and we actually knew the same people! What a small world to have shared a cab in Cabo with a kid I went to high school with!

It's stories like this that made me want to create this website. I hope many people out there experience coincidence like this and take notice at what a small world we live in!

Summer of 2007 I went on a cruise to Alaska with my family. There were a bunch of high school kids around my age, so we all hung out the whole time. This one guy named Scott caught my eye the first day, so we hung out and ended up being pretty much inseparable the rest of the trip. By the end of the cruise we were head over heels for each other, but there was one problem... I had to go back to California and he lives in Virginia. When I got home school started, and I had plans to go to Virginia in a few months. There was a girl who had just moved here who sat next to me in English, and I overheard her saying she was from Virginia. When I asked her where in Virginia she simply said, "You wouldn't know where it is, it's such a small town." Low and behold she and the guy I was in love with were from the same little town and knew ALL of the same people, they even knew who each other were. The girl is now one of my best friends. To make things weirder, Scott and I went our separate ways, and he now has a girlfriend... THAT MY BEST FRIEND KNOWS FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

My friend and I were on spring break and decided we would take a trip from Villanova to Amherst to visit some friends at UMass. Upon our arrival, we met all of our friend's roommates and began to talk about our college experiences. Once my friend's roommate found out we went to Villanova, he said that he was familiar with the school because his younger sister was a freshman there. He then texted his sister to let her know that he was hanging out with two juniors from Villanova. She then told him that she only knew a few juniors, one of whom was named Colin (my roommate). The kid from UMass then asked me who my roommate was back at Nova. I replied, "Colin" and it turned out to be the same Colin whom this kid was great friends with growing up. Colin also drove this kid's sister home from Villanova for our spring break. After finding out that my roommate was this kid's childhood friend, we all were surprised and laughing at how small a world it can be. What a Coincidink!

Side Note: UMass is the best party school ever, especially for Techno Tuesdays.

In January 2009 I was in Killington, VT for a ski weekend that was planned at the last second with my girlfriend at the time and her friends. It was a Saturday night and we were at a bar called Jax. I was a few...maybe more...drinks in and was sitting at the bar next to my girl and we were ordering more. All of a sudden, someone shoves me from behind and puts me into a chokehold. The look on the bartender's face told me this could escalate quickly, so I stood up and held the attacker's arm in place around my neck so his feet would leave the ground. As I prepared to slam this person into a wall/window/floor/bar, my girlfriend grabbed me, screaming and laughing hysterically, and made me release. When I turned around, my roommate from college (Mac) was standing there grinning his drunken face off. I hadn't talked to the kid in months, so I picked him up, gave him a bear hug and ran him into the wall anyway. Turns out, he was there for the weekend too with another of our friends from college...we spent the rest of the night hanging out at the bar and reminiscing over cold Long Trail.

Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil
in January 2009, I had just recently received a grant to work at a university in Brazil. I decided that I would spend a month traveling during carnaval before starting my job. At the Brazilian embassy, I met a guy named Christian from Long Island who told me that he was about to travel to the same state that I was going to (Santa Catarina) with some buddies. We decided to meet up.

I did end up meeting up with him and his friends in Brazil, and we had a great time traveling during carnaval for 2-3 weeks. After carnaval ended, I parted ways with Christian and his friends and I started my work at the university.

Almost a year later, I was heading back to the United States a week before Christmas to spend the holidays with my family. My first flight was delayed, and I ended up getting to Sao Paulo an hour before my connection flight, and upon arriving at the gate, they told me they could not let me board the plane.

It was one of the most stressful events of my life. I had no idea where my luggage was, where I would stay that night, and how or if I would ever get home to spend the holidays with my family. To top it off, I was all alone in an airport screaming at airline employees in a language that was not my own.

After 4 hours of waiting for accomodations, a woman told me that I should have been waiting on a line to request a place to stay. The line was enormous. Completely and utterly depressed, I started walking towards the line when suddenly I saw a familiar face.

There was Christian, almost at the front of the line, chatting up some cute asian girl. At the moment he saw me, he silently uttered "no f&*$ing way".

He had been hired by a friend to bring some valuables to a state in Southern Brazil, and he also missed his flight on the same airline due to a snowstorm in New York.

It seemed to me a pretty big coincidence, but I was just happy to have a friend around during a sucky layover.

Christian left for Southern Brazil the next day. Unfortunately I ended up getting screwed over by the same airline, finding myself stuck in Sao Paulo for another day and a half. I hate flying.

Last summer I was in the San Diego airport heading back to college. I ran into an old high school teacher and we started talking. She told me she was back in San Diego visiting friends, and that her family had recently moved to Amherst. My face lit up as I told her I go to school at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst! My 10th grade high school teacher and I shared two flights together on the way back to the small town of Amherst. What a Coincidink!

In the summer of 2008 some friends and I were staying in a house near Loreto in Baja California. Sitting in the small airport waiting for our plane I looked across the waiting room and saw a tall, blonde kid that looked surprisingly familiar. After a longer look the face became recognizable as Coco Dupont. He has been a friend of mine for about 4 years. He was by himself high fiving and shaking the hands of all the bar tenders and locals, speaking fluent Spanish. It was like he was one of the locals himself. He had taken a bus over 100 miles to go surfing for the weekend and hitched a ride to the airport to go back home. Seeing a familiar face in deep Baja California was as surprising as it was entertaining.
